Illinois bill would allow fast-food restaurants to accept food stamps

 

 

 

 

Illinois joins California and Arizona in allowing food stamp recipients to use their benefits at restaurants. Both states currently allow benefits to be used at Subway and Jack in the Box. Florida and Rhode Island have pilot programs, and Maryland is considering a bill similar to Illinois’.

 

 

 

 

Homeless, disabled and elderly Illinoisans who can’t easily cook a meal could get help by using food stamps at fast-food restaurants.

 

 

Low-income Illinoisans who are homeless, disabled or elderly are now able to use their food stamps at fast-food restaurants.

 

 

On July 19, Gov. J.B. Pritzker signed into law House Bill 3343, which establishes the Restaurant Meals Program as part of the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program, or SNAP, administered by the Illinois Department of Human Services. The program allows those enrolled in SNAP to use their benefits on meals at fast-food restaurants.

 

 

Previously, SNAP recipients could purchase food at grocery stores and farmers markets, but not at restaurants.

 

 

Proponents of the bill argued food stamp recipients have limited options for a hot meal.

 

 

"Somebody who’s homeless, for example, they don’t have a place to prepare that food or somebody who’s disabled, they’re not able to come home and cook a meal themselves," state Rep. Tom Demmer, R-Dixon, told WICS-TV.

 

 

While he favors the bill, he isn’t without his concerns.

 

 

"The prices of foods at restaurants are higher than what it might be at the grocery store and so, there’s a little bit of a trade-off there. So we want to make sure people aren’t running out of benefits at the end of the month," Demmer told the TV station.

In the past, the USDA has allowed victims of hurricanes and severe flooding to temporarily use their EBT cards to purchase food at restaurants.

 

 

What is the Restaurant Meals Program?

 

 

The Food Stamps program or Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) only allows you to use your EBT card to purchase food for preparation at home.

 

 

However, federal law permits states to allow certain SNAP beneficiaries to use their EBT cards to purchase food at approved restaurants.

 

 

The program is called the Restaurant Meals Program (RMP)

 

 

RMP allows individuals who are homeless, elderly (age 60 or over), or disabled, and their spouse, to use their SNAP benefits to purchase prepared meals at authorized restaurants.

 

 

 

 

Chocolate and fat used to get all the blame for skin conditions like acne. But recent studies suggest that it is carbon and sodium that are the more likely culprits. The vast variety of fast and processed food contains high levels of carbon (sugar). Our body doesn’t need this sugar, but our minds crave sweet excitement. Carbons are one of the elements our body savors, but more and more researchers point out that this excess sugar causes sudden spikes in blood sugar levels. This in turn causes a sharp increase in insulin. High insulin levels make skin drier and flakier and increase levels of free androgens (in both males and females) causing the skin glands to pump out excess oil. Excess oil and flaking skin blocks pores and the skin can’t breathe or self-cleanse properly. These are perfect conditions for a variety of skin problems, like acne and eczema.

Our skin needs the oil produced by the sebaceous glands to stay healthy, flexible, and moisturized. It forms a protective barrier against dirt from the outside and against the evaporation of too much water from the inside. Some scientists think it may also have an antimicrobial or antioxidant function. But as with most other things, too much of a good thing is bad for you. As mentioned earlier, increased sugar intake boosts your insulin levels. An increase in sodium makes this worse, when a build-up of salt absorbs the body’s water, dehydrating it, and causing the skin to produce more oil as compensation. Too much oil soon blocks up the pores, suffocates the surface of the skin, reduces hydration, and retains bacteria, dirt, and dead skin. As your skin suffocates under this landfill of layers of dirt on which bacteria thrive irritation becomes more frequent, causing eczema, pimples breakouts, patches of irritated skin.

Permanent Residency Requirements

 

 

A number of denied FAST card applications occur because the applicant has not fulfilled permanent residency requirements. If you have spent a lot of time outside of Canada or the US you may be denied because you have not spent enough time in the country you claim to reside in. Permanent residents from both countries must spend a certain amount of time living in the country e.g. in Canada you must spend at least two years within a five-year period living in the country. FAST authorities require every applicant to provide a five year address and employment history. The details must be complete and include phone numbers and zip codes. Any gaps in this information automatically lead to a FAST denial. IVT can get round these issues by making an initial assessment of your application to see if you qualify under the permanent residence rule. In some instances we can reapply for you once a 90 day period has elapsed.

Guests must be at least 21 years of age to purchase, possess or consume alcoholic beverages at California’s Great America. Valid state-issued identification or valid driver's license is required for each person purchasing, possessing or consuming alcoholic beverages. Alcoholic beverages are not permitted while in line for any ride. Alcohol service stops one hour prior to closing.

 

 

What forms of payment does Great America accept?

 

 

California's Great America accepts cash, credit or debit cards from American Express, MasterCard, Visa and Discover. A valid driver's license must be presented when using a credit card for purchases at the park.

 

 

Is smoking permitted at the park?

 

 

Smoking of any kind, including vapor and e-cigarettes, is not permitted inside California’s Great America. For the comfort of all guests, smoking is only permitted in the designated smoking area just outside the park gate.

 

 

Are there places in the park to store my belongings?

 

 

Lockers are available for rent in different areas of the main park and in South Bay Shores.

 

 

What does my admission ticket include?

 

 

Your admission ticket to California's Great America includes all rides, live shows and attractions in operation on the day of your visit. Your ticket also includes admission to South Bay Shores waterpark. Your admission ticket does not include pay-per-play games or attractions, or special events, including but not limited to Halloween Haunt and concerts.

 

 

How much is parking?

 

 

Parking is $25 per vehicle for regular parking ($20 pre-purchased online) and $30 for preferred parking (not offered online). RV parking is $27 per vehicle. A limited number of handicap parking spaces are available near the front gate on a first-come, first-served basis. School and tour buses park for free. A drop-off area is located just past the entrance on Great America Parkway at 4911 Great America Parkway.

 

 

Are drones permitted in or at Great America?

 

 

All drones (unmanned aerial systems) are prohibited at (in) all Cedar Fair parks, including California's Great America, and any unauthorized drone observed over California's Great America will be reported to the FAA and local law enforcement, regardless of its point of origin or operation. Drones may pose a potential safety risk and may violate Federal Aviation Administration guidelines.

 

 

What security procedures are implemented at Great America?

 

 

The safety of our guests and associates is our number one priority, and we have implemented several enhanced security procedures at the front gate. As part of the process:

 

 

     

     

  • Guests arriving at the park will go through metal detection every public operating day.
  •  

     

  • All bags, purses, backpacks, waist packs, etc. will be examined prior to entering.
  •  

     

  • Sharp objects (including pocketknives and metal chains), firearms or other items that could be considered a weapon are strictly prohibited and should be left at home or secured in your vehicle.

       

       

    • Other prohibited items include speakers, chairs, glass of any kind (except perfume bottles), food (except for special dietary needs), water guns, luggage, prescription drugs (unless in original packaging), weapons, bottled or canned beverages (except sealed bottles of water), hard-side coolers, beach umbrellas, fireworks, scissors, knives and child scooters/wagons.

    We use a variety of methods in securing our parks, including uniformed and plain-clothed officers and video surveillance monitoring.

     

     

    California's Great America does not tolerate guests who fight and/or harass other guests. People who engage in this behavior are subject to being ejected and potentially banned from the park and may be subject to arrest by local police.

     

     

    What attire is appropriate for the park?

     

     

    Shirts, shorts/pants, and shoes must be worn at all times while at California's Great America. Proper swimming attire for South Bay Shores is defined as a one- or two-piece swim suits without abrasive buttons, rivets, zippers or snaps. Costumes and face paint are not permitted during Halloween Haunt.

     

     

    What if I require first aid?

     

     

    First Aid is staffed by certified emergency medical technicians (EMT's) at all times. First Aid is located in the red schoolhouse next to 3 Point Challenge, near RailBlazer's first drop.

     

     

    What if I lose an item during my visit?

     

     

    Should you lose an article during your visit, please check with Lost and Found, located at Guest Services, or submit a request through our online Lost and Found service.

     

     

    Where can I pick up or drop off a guest?

     

     

    You can pick up or drop off guests in our passenger drop-off area just past the entrance to the California's Great America parking lot entrance. This area's street address is 4911 Great America Parkway, Santa Clara, CA 95054.

The Souvenir Bottle includes free refills all day long on your first visit. Plus, pay only $5 (plus tax) on each additional visit through 2022 for all-day refills! In addition, an All Season Souvenir Bottle or Drink Plan is available online or at the park and includes unlimited refills all season long. The choice is yours!

     

     

    Premium All Day Dining includes a drink wristband. With the drink wristband, enjoy free drink refills as often as every 15 minutes throughout the day.

    As a Platinum Passholder, the All Season Dining Plan is valid at any Cedar Fair park within the U.S. and Canada. Simply present your Platinum Pass at any participating food locations during your park visit to enjoy lunch and dinner (with only a 4 hour interval time between meals).

     

     

    If I forget my All Season Souvenir Bottle, can I use my Season Pass card to get beverages for the day?

     

     

    The All Season Souvenir Bottle and Season Pass Drink Plan are two separate programs. You will not be able to use your Season Pass card if you forget your bottle.

    Visit Guest Services at the park, and for a $2.99 exchange fee, you can be switched over to the bottle free program. The barcode on your bottle will be deactivated, and you can start to use your Season Pass immediately for your refills.

     

     

    How many refills can I get each day with a Souvenir Bottle or Season Pass Drink Plan?

     

     

    You may refill as often as you like with a time window of 15 minutes between refills.

     

     

    If I lose/forget my Season Pass, can I still use my Season Pass Drink Plan?

     

     

    If you lose your Season Pass, Guest Services can help you replace your Season Pass card for $15 and activate the Season Pass Drink Plan on your new pass.

     

     

    If you forget your Season Pass, please stop at any ticket window located at the Front Gate. With proper identification a temporary pass will be issued to you. The temporary pass is only valid for that day and will have the Season Pass Drink Plan attached. Only two temporary passes are allowed per Season Pass per year.
